The FOML approved purchase of six colorful cushions last year, and they finally arrived! They are now set up in the Children’s room at the Modesto Library just under Ryan’s Reading Tree, where they make a colorful and welcome addition to the fun setting. Please take a moment to enjoy them next time you visit the library.

Other things the Friends of the Library agreed to fund for 2009-2010: money for a big order of new and replacement DVDs, a new display rack for audio books, and walkie-talkies for Reference librarians. The funds for these purchases comes from your membership dues and proceeds from the twice-annual Scholastic book sales held in the downstairs auditorium. Thank you for your support!

Ryans Tree

Hey y’all, Ryan’s Tree is finally up in the Children’s Department at the Modesto Library–and it’s simply stunning. You have to see it! Created in honor of Ryan Dickerson, a young library user who passed away at age 18, the tree is an enduring symbol of the magic of reading and the joy of imagination. What a great addition to our library!

There will be a dedication ceremony on December 30 (stay tuned for time).

Thank you to the Dickerson Family who pledged a significant amount to complete the project, and thanks for the community for meeting the Dickerson’s matching donation challenge to get this project completed.
